Grade 5 math, chapter 11

Your child is learning about dividing decimals.  When the divisor is greater than the dividend, the quotient is a decimal less than one.  There are patterns in decimal division, just as there are in division where the quotient is a whole number.  These patterns involve place value and multiples of ten.  The purpose of knowing these patterns is to guide you to a reasonable answer.  We will use patterns and models to help your child visualize the division of decimals.
