Science

This past week students are learning about the lens. We are introducing students to the properties of lenses and challenging them to determine how these properties affect the function of eyes. Lenses bend light, a phenomenon known as refraction. Lenses with a greater curvature bend light more. Lenses can project images on surfaces such as screens and retinas. The cornea and lens in the eye are convex lenses. Then number and shape of the lenses affect where an image will focus. Camera obscuras were used to model how lenses work.
Math
In chapter 9 students will learn different strategies and techniques for division. Estimation and finding compatible numbers is an important step in finding the solution to many division problems. Ask you child tonight how to use compatible numbers to estimate division problems.
